I saw a commercial airline pilot’s cap for sale online - is this legal?

Christopher W asked:

I collect hats and I saw a United Airlines pilot’s cap for sale online. I seem to remember after the September 11th attacks it became illegal to buy and sell commercial airline uniforms (including caps) because they could be used by terrorists posing as airline employees. Does anyone know if this is true? I don’t want to buy something illegally.

For any reason so it can be turned in an airlines employment it stands to the pieces then it is made by an airlines employment it stands to anyone who has never been in to reason that if any former employee it is their property.
