Why did the Obama campaign promise to do something they didn’t have to, only to disappoint?

Lorenzo the Itinerant asked:

“Barack is about to choose a running mate, and he wants you to know first.”

Then why DIDN’T Barack ensure that that happened? Why the rhetoric? Does Barack have no control over what goes on, or was it not that important to him, as long as the campaign’s email/text number list got longer?

“You have helped build this movement from the bottom up, and Barack wants you to be the first to know his choice. Sign up today to be the first to know.”

People signed up, but Obama and Plouffe didn’t keep their end of the bargain. On something that is completely on their watch.

“You will receive an email the moment Barack makes his decision, or you can text VP to 62262 to receive a text message on your mobile phone.”

The press heard about it first. Heck, I heard about it first, because I happened to be online when the MSM leaked it out in the middle of the night.

Plouffe’s “special offer” DID allow the campaign to expand its campaign’s bulging e-mail database.

And, of course, Plouffe’s message does have
a “Donate” button at the bottom.

Why promise people that they’ll be the first to know, before the media, why make someone feel special and important, an “insider” in this way if you aren’t going to follow through?
