Great Online Bargain Shopping

I realize that there are similar questions, but I’ve made so many sacrifices so that I can have this trip and I want it to be really special. I’ve worked all my life to learn Spanish (now I’m going to have to learn a little catalán but that’s another story and dreamt of going, I’m going to Barcelona in November (to study).

I live in North Carolina, so I imagine that I could fly out of Charlotte (Greensboro, for some reason, tends to be more expensive).
I’ve started researching airfares, and I see what appear to be really good deals advertised.

I’m torn: Should I go ahead and buy my plane ticket now, or should I wait for a better deal? On one hand, I’m so scared to wait because I’m afraid that fares might go up and I’ll regret not buying my ticket sooner.
On the other hand, if I rush and buy my ticket now to secure a good deal, I might miss out on a bargain that I would have gotten by waiting. I feel like I’m gambling!

Also, it is very important that I have the option of changing my return dates. I don’t mind paying a fee… but I may want to extend my stay.

I read an online article and it ocurred to me that I could shop around online and then check with a travel agent: “Can you find me something even better?” That worked when I went to Mexico City a few years ago.
What would be the best decision?

Don’t tell me NOT to go,I’m definitely going. I definitely think it’s the right thing to do.

If you can help me, thank you. Here’s the thing, is that I’m gonna study in Barcelona. I can’t BEAR to leave Spain without seeing Andalucia, just once. I’m gonna try to stay longer (legally of course) but who knows when I’ll get back to Spain. I want to have as uch $$$ as possible to enjoy my trip.
